The Ministry of Transport and Highways has announced that the construction of the Port Access Elevated Highway is on track for completion by December. With approximately 90% of the project already finished, this significant infrastructure development began in September 2019 with financial support from the Asian Development Bank, costing an estimated USD 300 million.
Spanning 5.3 kilometers, the four-lane elevated highway will connect Ingurukade Junction to the New Kelani Bridge, extending over columns to Galle Face and Port City. Once operational, it is anticipated to significantly reduce the heavy traffic congestion currently plaguing Colombo.
