The Commissioner General of Excise, M.J. Gunasiri, has refuted claims regarding the alleged illegal issuance of excise licenses during the Presidential Election period. He clarified that only 172 excise licenses have been issued since May 2023, all in accordance with a government policy decision.
These licenses have generated Rs. 2.2 billion in revenue. Additionally, Gunasiri confirmed that all relevant companies have agreed to settle their tax arrears for 2023 and 2024 by 30th November.
