The Sri Lanka Police said that legal action will be taken against individuals who share misleading videos, for political advantage.

It has been revealed that videos of incidents which occurred in different parts of the island in the past are being recirculated on social media.

Police said that these videos are creating a false narrative by presenting past events as current events, thus misleading the public and potentially disrupting law and order.

The Police urged the public to refrain from sharing such videos on social media.

Police also emphasised that legal action will be taken against those who post content that could threaten national security.
