President Promises to Abolish Line Rooms & Empower Plantation Workers
Addressing a large crowd at the "Ranil Can" rally Wickramasinghe outlined his administration's progress and future goals, emphasizing improvements in the economy and public welfare.
He recalled the challenging conditions of 2022, including shortages of fuel, gas, and medicines, and a lack of jobs and electricity. He attributed the country's recovery to his administration’s efforts, including collaboration with the International Monetary Fund and economic reforms.
Under his leadership, the government has launched the Aswasuma program to aid low-income individuals, increased government salaries, and raised wages for plantation workers.
The President also highlighted the receipt of $10 billion in debt relief from international lenders, extending the repayment period to 2043.
Looking ahead, Wickramasinghe promised further economic advancements, including the creation of plantation villages, expanded storage facilities for local produce, and growth in the tourism sector.
He stressed the importance of continuing current policies to avoid setbacks and ensure sustained economic progress.
The rally, which saw a diverse range of attendees including religious figures, local politicians, and community members, underscored President Wickramasinghe’s bid for re-election.
He urged supporters to back his vision in the upcoming presidential election, asserting that the proposed changes are vital for the nation’s development.
