Prevailing showery condition expected to be enhanced next few days

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Prevailing showery condition over the South Western parts of the Island is expected to be enhanced some extent during next few days from today (09).

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and in Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts. Fairly heavy showers above 75 mm are likely at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.

Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in Uva province and in Ampara and Batticaloa districts during the evening or night. 

Strong winds about (40-50) kmph can be expected at times over Western slopes of the central hills, Northern, North-central and North-western provinces and in Hambantota, Monaragala and Trincomalee districts.

Condition of Rain:

Showers or thundershowers may occur in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo and Galle. 

Winds:

Winds will be south-westerly in direction and wind speed will be (30-40) kmph.

Wind speed can increase up to (60-65) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota and from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar.

Wind speed can increase up to (50-55) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Trincomalee to Kankasanthurai and from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo and Galle.

State of Sea:

The sea areas off the coasts extending from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota and from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar will be rough or very rough at times.

The sea areas off the coasts extending from Trincomalee to Kankasanthurai and from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo and Galle will be rough at times.

Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
