The new paediatric ward complex "Kadira Devapeksha" at the Apeksha Hospital funded by donations from the devotees of the Ruhunu Maha Kataragama Devalaya, was officially declared open yesterday.

The construction of the ward complex was carried out by the Air Force as part of their ‘Husma’ project within 10 months along with the contribution of armed forces personnel.

The amount spent for the project is approximately Rs. 160 million 

and another Rs. 50 million has been spent on its equipments.

This fully-equipped four-storey paediatric ward complex can treat 70 in-patient children.

The official handing over ceremony was graced by SLAF Chief of Staff, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Wickramarathne. Basnayaka Nilame of the Ruhunu Maha Kataragama Dewalaya, Dishan Gunasekara, Health Ministry Secretary Dr. Palitha Maheepala, Director of Apeksha Hospital, Dr. Aruna Jayasekara, senior SLAF officers including SLAF Director General of Electronics and Computer Engineering, Air Vice Marshal Demian Weerasinghe, Director General of Construction Engineering, Air Vice Marshal Chandana Geethapriya were also present at the occasion.
