On September 1, 1984, LTTE terrorists detonated a bomb targeting a vehicle in which STF officers were traveling in the northern region, killing 4 members of the special task force and injuring 11 others.

During the Ltte terrorist war 464 Special Task Force soldiers and six civil servants sacrificed their lives for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the motherland. 774 soldiers were injured and became totally disabled

This day is named as Special Task Force War Heroes Day and all war hero of the STF who sacrificed their life on behalf of the motherland is remembered. 

All family members including children and relatives will participate in the main celebration event of the war heroes.

The main STF War Heroes Day commemoration will be held at the STF Training School, Katukurunda today at 8.00 am. 

The war heroes’ commemorations Simultaneously will be held near the war heroes memorials at Kataragama and Ampara and Anuradhapura STF camps at 8.00am

An almsgiving will also be held at the Sri Dalada Maligawa  on 3rd September at 8.00am to invoke blessings on the war heros breathed their last for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the motherland.
