Over 50 foreign nationals arrested in Sri Lanka for online scam

Sri Lanka Police reported that over 50 foreign nationals were arrested in the Puttalam area for allegedly operating an online scam. Acting Police Media Spokesperson DIG Ruwan Gunasekara said that 44 males and 9 females were arrested during an operation conducted on Tuesday.

The suspects were operating from a hotel in the Kalpitiya area of Puttalam. Investigation officers, acting on a court order, conducted a search of the hotel, resulting in the seizure of 98 mobile phones, 44 computers, and a large number of SIM cards. The Computer Crime Investigation Division is conducting further investigations.

In addition, based on information from the arrested suspects, two more foreigners were arrested in possession of over Rs. 10 million in cash, which was also taken into police custody.
