A lorry veered off the road and toppled at Welihinda bend in Soranathota on the Badulla-Thennapanguwa road this afternoon, resulting in the death of four individuals and serious injuries to at least three others.
The injured have been admitted to Badulla General Hospital.
The deceased and injured were residents of Hulandawa in Monaragala and employees of a construction company. Investigations revealed that the lorry was transporting them from Thennepanduwa to Badulla when the accident occurred.
A police team led by OIC Traffic Branch SI A.V. Anura is conducting further investigations under the instructions of HQI Badulla Police CI T.M. Ratnayake and SSP Wasantha Kandewatta.
