The Attorney General objected today to former Parliamentarian Hirunika Premachandra being granted bail pending appeal. The application was brought before Colombo High Court Judge Amal Ranaraja, who scheduled a new hearing for July 11 to allow the Attorney General to submit written objections.

Hirunika Premachandra, sentenced to three years in prison for her involvement in the abduction of a youth using a Defender, has appealed the conviction and sentence at the Court of Appeal.

She faces charges including conspiracy, aiding abduction, and assault related to the incident in Dematagoda, where she was the ninth accused and pleaded not guilty.
