The Court of Appeal has announced that the decision on the bail order for Keheliya Rambukwella will be issued on August 1st. This follows the Maligakanda Magistrate's Court ordering the former minister's remand in connection with the procurement and distribution of substandard antibodies.
Today, Keheliya Rambukwella's appeal was heard before the Appellate Court bench, presided over by President Judge Nissanka Bandula Karunaratne and B. Shashi Mahendran. The bench instructed both parties to submit written submissions related to the case by July 15th.
During the hearing, President's Counsel Chandaka Jayasundara, representing the Bar Association of Sri Lanka, asserted that the former Minister of Health was actively involved in the process of distributing substandard drugs within the Sri Lankan hospital system. He emphasized that such drug purchases could not have occurred without the former minister's knowledge.
President's Counsel Dr. Faisz Mustafa, appearing for Keheliya Rambukwella, clarified that his client's involvement in purchasing these medicines was based on instructions from Ministry officials and not due to personal interest. He maintained Rambukwella's innocence.
