In a bid to alleviate the ongoing issue of teacher shortages in national schools, Minister of Education Susil Premjayantha has unveiled plans for the recruitment of 2,500 new educators.
The announcement, relayed by the President’s Media Division, outlines a comprehensive strategy aimed at bolstering the educational workforce.
Scheduled for July 3rd, the recruitment drive will see the appointment of 2,100 teachers specializing in crucial subjects such as Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Mathematics, Technology, and Foreign Languages. These appointments come as a response to the growing demand for qualified educators in key academic disciplines.
Moreover, an additional 500 teachers will be selected based on the results of the 2021 English Medium Advanced Diploma Examination. This targeted approach aims to address specific needs within the English medium curriculum, ensuring a well-rounded educational experience for students.
Minister Premjayantha stressed the significance of these appointments in mitigating the longstanding issue of teacher shortages, particularly in national schools. By bolstering the teaching workforce, the government aims to enhance the quality of education and provide students with access to a diverse range of subjects.
In a further effort to address the shortage of English medium teachers, retired educators proficient in English medium instruction are encouraged to apply for contract-based positions.
