Sri Lanka named top summer destination by Forbes

Sri Lanka has been named one of the top three must-visit destinations for summer '24 by Forbes, alongside Greece and Mauritius. According to travel blogger Kathleen Peddicord, Sri Lanka offers a unique blend of surf and wellness cultures, reminiscent of Bali before its surge in popularity led to over-tourism. The island boasts a wealth of wellness centers, such as Kalukanda House and Anantara Peace Haven Tangalle Resort, blending luxury amenities with well-being practices like yoga and reiki.

With 22 national parks, Sri Lanka is a haven for nature lovers, offering opportunities to spot elephants, otters, sloth bears, and even elusive leopards on safari. The recently completed Pekoe Trail spans 186 miles through the Central Highlands, offering trekkers a glimpse into local villages, tea plantations, and holy shrines. Traveling by train is also recommended, providing scenic views and a cultural experience.

Along the coastlines, Sri Lanka presents soft-sand beaches with surfable waves, from trendy beach towns with cocktail bars to quiet, untouched strips of sand. Mirissa Beach, known for its calm waters and rock formations, has earned a spot on Tripadvisor's "Best of the Best Beaches" for 2024.

Unlike some overburdened tourist destinations, Sri Lanka is actively seeking more visitors. Despite recent challenges such as bombings, the pandemic, and economic crises, tourism remains a vital source of income for the country. By visiting Sri Lanka, travelers can contribute directly to the local economy.

With its diverse attractions and marketing efforts by the tourism authority, Sri Lanka is poised for increased popularity in the coming months. It has already earned a place on Travel + Leisure's list of "The 50 Best Places to Travel in 2024" and Condé Nast Traveller's "The 24 Best Places to Go in 2024."
