The Sri Lankan government has finalized an agreement to allocate a portion of foreign employment opportunities to retired military personnel and the families of deceased war heroes.
This initiative, launched by State Minister of Defence Premitha Bandara Tennakoon, aims to support those who have served the nation.
According to a statement from the Defence Ministry, the program was developed following successful discussions between State Minister Tennakoon and Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment Manusha Nanayakkara.
The Ministry of Labour and Foreign Employment has committed to designating a portion of the foreign job opportunities secured by the government for this purpose.
In the initial phase, a number of construction sector jobs in Israel will be offered to eligible candidates. Arrangements are also being made to provide expatriates with loan facilities at concessional interest rates through state banks.
Currently, 67 Army personnel have been identified for these roles, and the Navy and Air Force have been instructed to nominate additional candidates.
To qualify, retired tri-forces members under the age of 44 will undergo brief training and an examination conducted by the Ministry of Labour and Foreign Employment.
The details of the initiative were discussed during a recent meeting held by State Minister Tennakoon, aimed at educating tri-forces personnel about the new foreign employment program.
