The second reading of the draft 'Sri Lanka Electricity Bill' was passed in Parliament this evening with a substantial majority of 44 votes. The bill garnered 103 votes in favor, while 59 Members of Parliament (MPs) opposed it.

The passage of the bill saw opposition from several key political factions. MPs from the 'Samagi Jana Balawegaya' (SJB), National People's Power (NPP), and a group of independent parliamentarians cast their votes against the proposed legislation.

Despite the dissent, the bill advanced successfully, marking a notable moment in Sri Lanka's legislative process.
