The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) made an arrest at Katunayake International Airport, apprehending a racketeer involved in the illicit trade of foreign liquor.
This individual, reportedly a 40-year-old resident of Katunayake, had been operating within the airport's vehicle parks, purchasing foreign liquor from arriving air passengers at discounted rates.
Subsequently, he profited considerably by selling these goods to various hotels and restaurants across different regions.
Upon further investigation, authorities discovered a significant quantity of liquor in the suspect's possession, which had been acquired from inbound passengers. The suspect's activities had allegedly persisted over an extended period before his apprehension.
The suspect was to produced before the Negombo magistrate.
