The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Singapore announced today that Singapore has offered assistance to upgrade Sri Lanka's immigration system.

This initiative follows a recent meeting between Senarath Dissanayake, Sri Lanka's High Commissioner to Singapore, and officials from Singapore's Immigration Checkpoint Authority (ICA) at the High Commission.

The ICA delegation is scheduled to visit Sri Lanka from May 26 to 31, 2024, to explore collaborative opportunities aimed at enhancing Sri Lanka's immigration system with advanced technology, aiming to achieve standards akin to those of Singapore. This visit comes in response to a request made by Tiran Alles, Sri Lanka's Minister of Public Security, to K Shanmugam, Singapore's Minister for Home Affairs and Minister for Law.

During the meeting, High Commissioner Dissanayake highlighted the significant challenges Sri Lanka faces in border control. He emphasized that both the Minister and the Sri Lankan Department of Immigration are keen to welcome the delegation, as their expertise and insights will be crucial for the modernization and improvement of Sri Lanka's immigration processes.

Phua Chiew, Deputy Director of ICA and leader of the delegation, briefed the High Commissioner on ICA’s transformation journey and outlined the planned engagements with Sri Lankan authorities. He noted that this visit is a preliminary step to understanding Sri Lanka's border control systems and related measures. He also expressed ICA's readiness to assist in enhancing Sri Lanka's border management capabilities.
