Over 67,000 people have been impacted by severe weather across thirteen districts, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) reported. The adverse conditions have affected 67,865 individuals from 17,325 families, with two fatalities recorded.
The districts affected include Ratnapura, Colombo, Kegalle, Anuradhapura, Kandy, Galle, Jaffna, Kalutara, Matara, Puttalam, Kurunegala, Hambantota, and Gampaha. Additionally, the extreme weather has resulted in partial damage to 410 houses.
Forecasts indicate that the situation may worsen, with very heavy showers of approximately 150 mm expected in the Western and Sabaragamuwa Provinces, as well as in the Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts.
Heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm is anticipated in the North-Western Province and in the districts of Mannar, Galle, and Matara. The DMC urges residents in these areas to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.
