A 10-year-old schoolgirl from Malgolla, Patitalawa, lost her life after being struck by a private bus traveling from Berawila to Gampola at New Kurunduwatta in Gampola.
The victim was rushed to New Kurunduwatta Regional Hospital but succumbed to her injuries.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the accident transpired as the girl alighted from the bus and attempted to cross the road in front of it.
Police have arrested both the driver and conductor of the bus in connection with the incident, with the New Kurunduwatta police overseeing the investigation.
