Sri Lanka's State Intelligence has initiated an urgent investigation into four Sri Lankan nationals suspected of having ties to ISIS. The individuals were apprehended by the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad upon their arrival at Ahmedabad Airport in India.
According to defense sources, Sri Lanka's intelligence agency has reached out to their Indian counterparts to gather more information on the suspects and ascertain any potential links to the ISIS network. Upon receiving details from India, Sri Lankan authorities will proceed with their own investigation.
The suspects reportedly departed from Colombo, traveling first to Chennai before heading to Ahmedabad. Indian media reports indicate heightened security measures at Ahmedabad Airport following the arrests. The Gujarat ATS acted on intelligence suggesting the suspects were awaiting instructions from a handler. Encrypted chats recovered from their phones are being scrutinized.
Public Security Minister Tiran Alles and IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon stated they are closely monitoring the situation and plan to engage in discussions with Indian authorities for further information. The suspects are currently undergoing intensive questioning at an undisclosed location, with their motives remaining unclear at this time.
