10209 ppersons belonging to 3518 families are affected by the bad weather. The Irrigation Department says that with the rapid rise in the water levels of many rivers, there may be a risk of flooding.


People belonging to 3518 families in 6 districts are affected  due to bad weather.

Landslide warnings are still active for 7 districts. Due to the rapid rise in the water levels of many rivers, the Disaster Management Center informs the residents in the vicinity to be vigilant.

Due to the gradual establishment of South West Monsoon over the island, the existing rain and wind conditions are expected to continue.

Kesbewa area received the most rainfall yesterday. It was recorded as 215 mm.


It was also decided to close schools in Puttalam district today due to heavy rain.

Floods have occurred in many areas and the most affected area is Arachchikattuwa Divisional Secretariat. Flooding has occurred in the villages of Anavilundawa, Rajakadaluwa, Maeliya, Battuluoya and Muthupanthiya.

Arachchikattuwa Divisional Secretary  stated that 200 persons have been displaced due to the inundation of many houses and steps have been taken to provide the necessary facilities to those people.

DMC  officials say that efforts have also been made to cut the Muthupanthia estuary.

 The Building Research Organization stated that the landslide warnings issued to 7 districts are still valid.
