The Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources has issued an urgent advisory for small fishing boats operating along the coastal areas from Mannar to Colombo via Galle, Hambantota to Pottuvil, and Ampara.
Fishermen are advised not to venture out to sea starting from 12 noon today until further notice.
The advisory, issued by the department's Director, comes in response to prevailing inclement weather conditions, which pose significant risks to small vessels.
