Two police officers from the Anuradhapura Traffic Division were seriously injured when a wayside tree suddenly fell on their motorcycle at Karakkulama Junction.
They were admitted to Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital, where one officer is reported to be in critical condition due to spinal injuries.
The injured officers are a Police Constable (PC) from Dambulla Police and another from Maradankadawala Police. The incident occurred as a group of five officers was en route to Anuradhapura on three motorcycles for maintenance and repairs. The officer from Maradankadawala had joined the ill-fated motorcycle shortly before the accident.
Kawarakkulama Police are conducting investigations.
