State Minister of Defence Premitha Bandara Tennakoon said that Sri Lanka is in the process of establishing a small arms ammunition manufacturing unit within the country.

Speaking at the Presidential Media Centre (PMC), State Minister Tennakoon disclosed ongoing discussions with India regarding the establishment of this unit, highlighting India's substantial growth in defense manufacturing over the past two decades as a model worth emulating.

He emphasized the importance of learning from India's experience and expressed the view that Sri Lanka should also venture into manufacturing. However, he clarified that Sri Lanka is not currently seeking to purchase military equipment from India.

Tennakoon underscored the robust military-to-military connectivity between India and Sri Lanka, stating that while maintaining this connection, it does not imply an immediate intention to procure equipment from any specific source.
