The non-academic staff at state universities have escalated their strike action by withdrawing from essential services, including water and electricity maintenance, starting today.
This move marks the 13th consecutive day of the strike, organized by the Joint Committee of University Trade Unions, which stems from ongoing wage disputes.
Despite discussions held during the Cabinet meeting on Monday (May 13) regarding proposals to address the monthly allowance and wage disparities of the non-academic staff, approval has been delayed. The delay is due to the decision to seek clearance from the Ministry of Finance before moving forward with the proposed changes.
The proposal, once approved by the Ministry of Finance, is anticipated to be resubmitted to the Cabinet for final approval. In the meantime, the strike action continues to impact the functioning of state universities, with essential services now also being affected.
