Dr. Indira Kahawita, a Dermatologist at Colombo National Hospital, has sounded the alarm on a notable rise in skin-related ailments across the island.

Dr. Kahawita stressed the importance of seeking medical treatment for certain skin diseases of this nature.

According to Dr. Kahawita, prolonged exposure of uncovered skin areas to sunlight can lead to itchy spots on the skin. She highlighted that young children, in particular, may develop white spots on their faces, notably on the top of the cheeks and around the eyes.

In addition to sun-related issues, fungal infections are also on the rise. Dr. Kahawita emphasized the significance of not attempting home remedies for such infections and urged individuals to seek immediate medical attention from qualified doctors.
