The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has apprehended a tuition master implicated in the suspected leak of the GCE Ordinary Level (OL) English examination question paper.

The arrest took place in the Kandy area, where the suspect teacher, a 36-year-old resident of Mahiyanganaya, had been operating as a tutor at a private tuition class in Hasalaka. It's been revealed that the tuition master disseminated the English question paper to a WhatsApp group boasting 1,025 members.

Adding to the gravity of the situation, the Hasalaka Police also detained the mother of the tuition master and seized two mobile phones belonging to the teacher.

This incident comes on the heels of multiple irregularities detected during the ongoing O/L examinations, prompting Examinations Commissioner General H.J.M.C. Amith Jayasundara to file a complaint with the CID. Among the reported irregularities were incidents at examination centers in Colombo, specifically Kotahena and Hasalaka.

According to reports, certain candidates attempted to access answers for the English question paper using smartphones and subsequently shared them with others. Vigilant invigilators confiscated the mobile devices at these centers.

In response, the Commissioner General has initiated complaints with local police stations in the respective areas housing the affected examination centers.
