The Colombo District Court has extended its order preventing former President Maithripala Sirisena from acting as chairman of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP).

Judge Sandun Vithana issued this extension in response to a lawsuit filed by former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, effective until May 29. The court has instructed Sirisena and other defendants to submit objections by that date.

Kumaratunga's complaint alleges that Sirisena's negligence as head of state contributed to the Easter Sunday attacks and that the Supreme Court ordered him to compensate victims with Rs. 100 million.

She also accuses him of seeking to defeat the Rajapaksa family in the 2015 presidential election, unconstitutionally dismissing Ranil Wickremesinghe as Prime Minister, and violating citizens' fundamental rights by dissolving Parliament.

Additionally, she claims that Sirisena's actions contradict SLFP policies, citing his removal of Duminda Dissanayake, Lasantha Alagiyawanna, and Mahinda Amaraweera from their SLFP positions at a special meeting on March 30.
