In response to the Supreme Court's decision disqualifying State Minister Diana Gamage from holding a parliamentary seat due to dual citizenship, former Member of Parliament Mujibur Rahman of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has been nominated to fill the vacant position.
Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa announced this decision during today's parliamentary session, indicating that the nomination will be communicated to the Election Commission.
The Supreme Court's ruling, delivered by a three-judge bench, determined that Gamage is not legally qualified to hold the position of Member of Parliament due to her dual citizenship status.
