In a historic ruling today, the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka declared State Minister Diana Gamage ineligible to hold a seat in Parliament due to her citizenship status.
The decision strips Gamage of her parliamentary office, marking a significant development in the country's political landscape.
The three-judge bench of the Supreme Court, comprising Justices Gamini Amarasekara, Kumuduni Wickremasinghe, and Janak de Silva, delivered the verdict, stating that Gamage's status as a non-citizen of Sri Lanka renders her disqualified from serving as a Member of Parliament.
The ruling comes as a result of a petition filed by Oshala Herath, represented by Counsel Hafeel Farisz alongside Nishika Fonseka and Shannon Thilekaratne. Farman Cassim PC appeared on behalf of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya.
