The police have reported the discovery of the body of a youth from Kuliyapitiya, who had gone missing a few days ago while visiting his girlfriend’s house, in the Panirendawa area of Madampe.
According to Police Spokesman DIG Nihal Thalduwa, the body was found in a forest in the area.
The investigation was initiated on April 22 when the police received information about the youth's disappearance in the Kuliyapitiya, Ilukhena area.
Susita Jayawansha, a resident of Kabalewa area in Kuliyapitiya, was last seen visiting his girlfriend’s house after receiving a phone call from her father.
It was later revealed that the youth had been assaulted by his girlfriend’s father and two other individuals identified as masons.
Subsequently, the two arrested masons confessed to the police that the father of the girl had instructed them to take the youth to the house of a former Provincial Council member living in the area.
After the incident, the main suspect, his wife, the girlfriend of the missing youth, the two sons of the main suspect, as well as the main suspect’s sister and her husband, reportedly fled the area.
DIG Thalduwa said that the main suspect in the youth's disappearance surrendered to the court through his attorneys yesterday.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances of the youth's murder and identify the individuals involved.
