In a heartbreaking incident, four school boys reportedly drowned while bathing in the Ma Oya in Alwwa, with another student being rescued and hospitalized.
According to Police Spokesman DIG Nihal Thalduwa, a group of five boys were bathing in the river when the tragedy unfolded.
Fortunately, residents in the area managed to rescue one of the boys, who was then admitted to the hospital. However, the remaining four boys were pronounced dead.
The victims of this tragic drowning are Grade 09 students of a school in the Polgahawala area, as confirmed by the police."
