The Supreme Court has granted leave to proceed for nine fundamental rights applications filed by Chief Inspectors of Police alleging rights violations in denied ASP promotions in 2021.
The petitioners claim they met all promotion qualifications but were unjustly denied. Justices Gamini Amarasekara, Yasantha Kodagoda, and Mahinda Samayawardhana presided.
Deputy Solicitor General Nirmalan Vigneshwaran assured 230 ASP vacancies would be filled per Court recommendations. The Attorney General supported granting leave.
Petitioners argue the denials breach Section 12(1) of the Constitution. Cases are set for support on July 10 and 11, with Saliya Pieris and Anuja Premaratne PCs representing the petitioners.
