The Education Ministry has announced plans to address the issue of heavy school bags, citing concerns about potential health risks for students.

Secretary of the Education Ministry, Wasantha Perera, disclosed the decision today following warnings from health authorities regarding the risk of spinal misalignment and other problems associated with carrying heavy bags.

As a proactive measure, the Ministry has decided to implement several changes, starting with the printing of textbooks in batches. This move aims to alleviate the burden on students by reducing the number of books they need to carry daily.

Furthermore, an alternative solution proposed involves allowing students to bring only their workbooks to school, under the direct supervision of school principals. This measure seeks to lighten the load for students while ensuring they have access to essential learning materials.
