The Colombo Fort Magistrate granted anticipatory bail to Actress Damitha Abeyratne and her husband, shielding them from potential arrest until March 6. This legal safeguard comes in the wake of an alleged complaint accusing the couple of defrauding Rs. 3 million under the guise of promising job opportunities in Korea.
Magistrate Thilina Gamage also issued notices summoning the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the CID’s Computer Crimes Unit to appear before the Court on the next hearing date.
Senior Counsel Ajith Pathirana, representing Damitha Abeyratne and her husband, expressed disappointment over the decision by the Inspector General of Police to transfer the investigation regarding the Rs. 3 million fraud to the CID. This move indicates a shift in the investigative process, prompting legal representatives to closely scrutinize the handling of the case.
