Deshabandu Tennakoon assumes duties as Sri Lanka's new IGP

Deshabandu Tennakoon officially commenced his duties as the 36th Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Sri Lanka today, marking a significant transition in the leadership of the nation's law enforcement agency. President Ranil Wickremesinghe appointed Tennakoon to this esteemed position on February 26, a decision widely acclaimed across the country.

Born in 1971, Tennakoon embarked on his illustrious police career in 1998, initially serving as an apprentice Assistant Superintendent of Police. His academic pursuits include a bachelor's degree from the University of Colombo and a master's degree from the University of Kelaniya, attesting to his commitment to both practical policing and scholarly endeavors. 

Before assuming the role of IGP, Tennakoon held the esteemed position of Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police (SDIG) overseeing the Western Province, where he demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication to public service.

Throughout his 25-year tenure in the Sri Lankan Police, Tennakoon has exhibited exemplary professionalism and integrity, serving in diverse capacities across the nation. His wealth of experience and steadfast commitment to upholding law and order position him as a beacon of hope for the future of Sri Lanka's law enforcement.
