The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) is set to convene a crucial meeting on February 28th to deliberate on the proposed reduction in electricity tariffs put forth by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB).
A spokesperson for the PUCSL announced that the final verdict on the revision of electricity tariffs would be reached during this gathering.
The state-owned electricity provider, CEB, presented its proposal for lowering electricity charges to the PUCSL on February 22nd, sparking anticipation and debate among stakeholders.
Kanchana Wijesekera, the Minister of Power and Energy, recently addressed the parliament, disclosing that the CEB aims to implement reductions equivalent to the previous increments made in October 2023.
In October of the preceding year, Sri Lanka witnessed a significant surge in electricity tariffs, with rates escalating by 18% for domestic and religious establishments, 12% for industrial and hospitality sectors, and a substantial 24% for governmental entities.
