A young woman has been arrested by the police in connection with the murder of a Buddhist monk, who was fatally shot at a temple in the Malwathuhiripitiya area last month.

The suspect, aged 22 and reportedly residing in the Devagala area of Weragala, was arrested in Aralaganwila. Police suspect her involvement in harboring and assisting the main suspect in the shooting.

On January 23, a group of four assailants arrived in a car and shot dead the 45-year-old Buddhist monk, Ven. Kalapaluwawe Dhammarathana Thero, inside the temple premises. Despite being rushed to the Gampaha Hospital with critical injuries, the monk later succumbed to his wounds.

To date, Police have arrested six individuals allegedly complicit in the murder. Among the recovered evidence are the T-56 rifle purportedly used in the crime and the remote switch of the car used during the shooting, both found in possession of the fourth suspect.
