The Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court has ordered the release of several vehicles, valued at around Rs. 100 million, which were held in the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) under the ongoing operation ‘Yukthiya’.
The vehicles are to be handed over to their registered owners, as per the directive from Magistrate Chanima Wijebandara, who rejected the CID’s request for extended custody for further investigations.
The defense lawyer strongly objected in court, arguing that the CID did not obtain proper orders from the High Court to acquire the impounded property.
In December 2023, the Kaduwela police seized five luxury buses, a luxury car, and a motorcycle owned by the sister of Malalage Sudath Kithsiri, also known as “Welivita Sudda,” alleged to be a drug trafficker. Subsequently, these vehicles were handed over to the CID.
