The widow of Roshan Kumarasiri, who tragically lost his life in the Narammala police shooting, has taken a bold step by filing a Fundamental Rights petition before the Supreme Court.
In her petition, Kamani Rupika Priyangani demands Rs. 200 million in compensation from the involved police officers, including Acting IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon.
The incident, which resulted in the death of Kumarasiri at the hands of Sub Inspector Gunawardena, has left Priyangani and her three children in dire circumstances. The petitioner highlights the impact of this loss on their family, particularly noting the upcoming examinations of their elder twin daughters and the young son in Grade three.
Priyangani accuses the involved officers of abusing their powers and acting arbitrarily, condemning their actions during the 'Yukthiya Operation'. She further said the OIC of the Narammala Police Station, Acting IGP Tennakoon, and the State for allowing such violations to occur.
The petitioner further states that Acting IGP Tennakoon also visited her house after the incident and handed over a cheque for the value of one million rupees.
The petition, represented by Attorney-at-law Sunil Watagala, underscores the demand for justice and accountability in the wake of this tragic event.
