A man and his six-month-old baby girl died when his van collided with a train at a level crossing in the Inuvil area in Jaffna, between 6.30 pm and 7.00 pm yesterday (14).
The man who was driving the van was travelling with his wife and infant daughter when his vehicle collided with the moving train at the level crossing at the Inuvil Karainagar Pillaiyar road area in the Chunnakam Police Division in Jaffna.
The man and his infant daughter died on the spot, while his 21-year-old wife was critically injured in the accident. The woman was admitted to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital at around 7.00 pm. The van was severely damaged in the accident. Chunnakam Police in the Jaffna District are conducting investigations into the accident.
