An 18-year-old and a 16-year-old from Seenigoda, Ambalangoda, were presented before Balapitiya Magistrate R.D. Janaka after allegedly pilfering Rs. 140,000 from a neighbor. They were released on personal bail of Rs. 200,000 each.
The complainant reported leaving the cash, freshly withdrawn from the bank, in a bag at home before briefly stepping out. Upon return, the money was gone.
Investigations revealed the bag was accessible through a window using a cinnamon pole.
Fearing police repercussions, the suspects returned Rs. 127,000 the next day.
Ordered by the magistrate, Ambalangoda police will conduct further investigations and submit a report by March 24, postponing the case.
