A 65-year-old man from Imbulgoda, Gampaha, has been arrested by police on suspicion of setting ablaze a female pet dog belonging to his neighbor.
Police said the incident occurred on Saturday night, resulting in severe burn injuries to the pet dog, which tragically succumbed while being rushed to a veterinary surgeon by its owners.
The suspect, identified as a resident of the same area, allegedly committed the act due to purported mating between his German Shepherd dogs and the victimized dog.
Following a complaint filed by the owners of the victimized dog, Yakkala Police initiated an investigation into the matter.
