Colombo Additional Magistrate Pasan Amarasinghe issued a notice today (12) to the director of the Police Legal Division to appear in court regarding a four-year delay in referring investigation excerpts of a minor rape case to the Attorney General for advice.

The Magistrate ordered the director to appear in court on February 19 and present the facts.

After considering the facts presented by the Narahenpita Police indicating that investigations into the incidents have been completed and sent to the Legal Division for the Attorney General's advice, the Magistrate ordered the notice to be issued by the Inspector General of Police.

Furthermore, the magistrate highlighted a case of rape involving a woman in 2015, where the police completed the investigation and sent the excerpts to the legal division in 2019. However, as of today, the excerpts have not been forwarded to the Attorney General for legal advice, resulting in a year-long delay.

Both the suspect and the victim woman appeared in court.
