A fugitive, wanted for a decade under a High Court warrant for sexually assaulting a schoolgirl, was arrested in the Mawanella area.

The individual, aged 29 and residing at the Teberton Estate in Norton Bridge, had been eluding court appearances in an ongoing case at the Hatton Magistrate’s Court concerning the abuse of an 11-year-old girl.

After committing the offense, the suspect fled the area and has since been evading authorities, residing in various parts of the country under different identities while engaging in different jobs, according to police sources.

Acting on intelligence, officers from the Norton Bridge Intelligence Division and the Norton Bridge Special Task Force apprehended the suspect in Mawanella, where he was reportedly disguising himself while selling gram (kadala).
