A doctor attached to the Aranayaka District Hospital had been arrested in connection with an incident where he allegedly sexually assaulted a 28-year-old female doctor who was working at hospital while on duty.
Police said that the 45-year-old doctor was arrested this morning and will be produced in the Mawanella Magistrate's Court.
The arrest was made following a complaint lodged by the victim doctor's father. It was revealed that she was transferred to the Aranayak District Hospital from another hospital a few days ago.
She alleged that the suspect doctor had touched her inappropriately while on duty.
Police said that statements have been recorded from the doctor who was molested and five other staffers who were on duty at that time.
The female doctor to be referred to the Judicial Medical Officer of the Kegalle Teaching Hospital.
