The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) has reported a notable uptick in Sri Lanka's official reserve assets, marking a 2.3% increase during the month of January 2024.
Official figures reveal that the reserve assets have ascended from USD 4,392 million in December 2023 to USD 4,491 million in January 2024.
CBSL officials emphasized that this boost encompasses a significant swap facility provided by the People's Bank of China, amounting to approximately USD 1.4 billion. However, it's worth noting that the usability of this facility is subject to certain conditionalities outlined by CBSL.
The surge in official reserve assets signals a positive development for Sri Lanka's financial stability, indicating a bolstering of the country's economic resilience amidst ongoing challenges and uncertainties.
