State Minister of Justice and Prison Affairs, Anuradha Jayaratne, announced plans to implement a house arrest program this year for individuals accused of civil offenses.
This initiative aims to alleviate congestion in prisons.
He further elaborated that the drafting department is currently preparing relevant laws based on recommendations from the appointed committee. Once finalized, these laws will be presented to parliament for approval.
In addition, the State Minister emphasized that the implementation of this program will necessitate amendments to several acts, including the Bail Act.
