Jaffna-based 'Awa' gang leader arrested

The Walana anti-corruption Unit has arrested the person who is suspected to be the leader of the 'Awa' gang involved in many crimes in Jaffna.

The suspect was arrested in a raid conducted in Mount Lavinia.

The suspect was arrested while staying on the upper floor of a two-storey house in Mount Lavinia.

Police suspect that he may have stayed there with the intention of fleeing to a foreign country.

Police said the suspect has been heavily addicted to the use of ice drugs and at the time of his arrest, 1 gram and 300 mg of ice drugs were found in his possession.
