Buddhist religious pooja to commemorate the 76th Independence Day was held at Sridharmakeertiramaya in Kollupitiya this morning under the patronage of Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena.
First Prime Minister D S Senanayake held poojas on February 4, 1948 at this temple and that tradition has been continued every year since then.
The Mhasangha, State Minister Ashoka Priyantha, MP Yadamini Gunawardena, former Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, Secretary to the Ministry of Public Administration Pradeep Yasaratne and Secretary to the Ministry of Buddasasana, Somaratne Widanapathirana were also present on this occasion.
